The short answer

How does Dynamics 365 Copilot compare with an AI built into the ERP?

Dynamics 365 Copilot is a family of AI features that differ by application, and Business Central has a Sales Order Agent that runs in the background on its own account. Agaro Agent is the one AI inside Agaro ERP: you ask, and it works with your own roles and access. Compare the exact feature: interactive help on your permitted records differs from a background process with its own permissions.

The problem

How do you make the comparison specific enough to use?

Name the Dynamics application, the feature, the trigger and the outcome before you compare.

  • Which Dynamics application?

Sales, Business Central, Finance and other Dynamics applications have different AI features. Name the application and feature before making a capability comparison.

  • Who is the acting identity?

A signed in assistant session and a configured background account can use different permissions. Inspect the identity that actually reads records and performs each action.

  • What starts the work?

An interactive prompt, a scheduled run and an incoming customer email are different triggers. Define the trigger and the required human involvement before testing.

  • What is the business outcome?

A summary, a prepared document, a sent message and a posted record need different validation. Agree on the final state and inspect it directly.

Microsoft documentation reviewed November 6, 2026. What is the difference between an interactive AI and a background one?

An interactive AI starts when a person asks. A background one starts from a trigger, such as an email. Microsoft documents Copilot in Dynamics 365 Sales for understanding records and preparing for sales work. The Business Central Sales Order Agent follows a different pattern: it monitors a designated mailbox and handles customer order requests, with designated users reviewing outgoing messages.

Agaro Agent’s experience starts with a person asking for work inside the ERP. Supported tools reach the active workspace and the modules you installed. Confirm the actual triggers, available actions and limits of any background workflow before comparing it with a specific Microsoft process.

Whose permissions does the AI use?

Microsoft says Copilot in Dynamics 365 Sales can only get information from records and files that the signed in user can access. Its setup documentation states that the Sales Order Agent runs under its own account and does not inherit permissions from the person reviewing a task. That is a configured operating model, not evidence that the product lacks access controls.

Agaro Agent has no account of its own. It works with the role and permissions of the person who asks. Test the prompting account’s access and tool authorization, then inspect the required confirmations and the affected record. Use real denied cases and a consequential action in either demonstration.

When should a Dynamics deployment stay?

If Business Central already owns your order process and the configured email agent meets your requirements, extending it can preserve existing records, integrations and staff knowledge. The same applies to an established Dynamics Sales workflow.

Evaluate Agaro when you are choosing a connected ERP and want to assess the AI alongside finance, CRM, people and operations. Agaro ERP is in its Preview / Pilot phase. Confirm the exact module and workflow coverage with the product team, and compare full licensing, credit usage, support and rollout effort.

How it works

How do you test interactive and background work separately?

  1. Describe the trigger and output

For example, compare a person asking for an invoice with a mailbox processing customer order requests. Avoid treating these as the same workload.

  2. Choose the relevant application

Map the workflow to Agaro’s installed modules or the relevant Dynamics product. Confirm supported actions and the source of the customer and item records.

  3. Inspect identity and approval

Use a restricted account and an approval scenario. For background processing, separately review the account, mailbox access and configured oversight.

  4. Review the complete result

Check the ERP document, the validation result, messages, activity history and consumption. Include administrator effort in the comparison.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about Dynamics 365 Copilot

Is Dynamics 365 Copilot one product?

No. Capabilities differ across Dynamics applications and named AI features. Identify the application, feature, licensing and required workflow before comparing it with Agaro Agent.

Can Microsoft’s Business Central agent create business records?

Yes. Microsoft describes the Sales Order Agent processing customer requests from a designated mailbox and preparing sales quotes or orders. The workflow and human involvement depend on its configuration.

Does the Sales Order Agent inherit the reviewer’s permissions?

Microsoft’s setup documentation says it runs under its own account and does not inherit permissions from the person reviewing the task. Administrators manage its assigned permission sets.

What should I test in a demo of an ERP’s AI?

Use your required records, a supported business action, a restricted user and an operation that needs approval. Inspect the resulting ERP record, the activity history and the AI usage, and confirm current Preview / Pilot availability.

Does the Sales Order Agent cost extra?

Microsoft says the Sales Order Agent uses Copilot Credits for AI interactions and asks you to set up a billing model for your environment. Confirm application licenses and consumption with Microsoft.

Does the ERP support role based and attribute based access control?

Yes. Essentials and Scale include role and attribute based access control on top of five built in roles: custom access groups with inheritance, access levels per module, read, write, create and delete rights per data type, menu visibility, record rules and field level security. Agaro Agent follows the same rules as the person who asks, so it can never see or change more than they can.
